New ORV Routes Added –
Freda Grade ORV Route
This new ORV Route intersects the Bill Nichols ORV Route in the village of South Range and travels northwest towards the shore of Lake Superior. This new route is not show in our maps as a designated route, however, it s path on the ground uses snowmobile trail 121, which is shown in our maps on page 19 of the Michigan Off Road Guide and Travel Atlas. Bergland to Sidnaw ORV Route
As its name suggests, this new ORV Route connects the village of Bergland and the village of Sidnaw. This route is shown in the Michigan Off Road Guide and Travel Atlas as an ORV Route on pages 23, 24 and 25. On page 25, we show the route turning north at Sidnaw and continuing on to Baraga Plains. This section of the route, from Sidnaw to Baraga Plains is still in the proposal phase and is not yet legal for ORV use. Drummond Island ORV Route
This new ORV Route is not shown in our maps as a designated ORV Route; however it uses a combination of existing county roads, snowmobile trails and former sections of the Drummond Island ATV Trail, all of which are shown in our maps. The new route is approximately 45 miles long and is shown in the Michigan Off Road Guide and Travel Atlas on page 43. ORV Route Extended –
Bill Nichols ORV Route
This route has been extended to the north reaching the south western boundary of the City of Houghton which is NOT open to ORV travel. Arrangements can be made to travel through Houghton, cross the Houghton – Hancock Bridge and continue traveling northward to the tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula. This extended section is not shown in our map however it is well marked on the ground and follows along M-26 which is located on page 19 of the Michigan Off Road Guide and Travel Atlas. ATV Trail Change –
The Drummond Island ATV trail
This trail has been reduced from approximately 70 miles in length to approximately 40 miles in length. This trail is shown on page 43 of the Michigan Off Road Guide and Travel Atlas. The Drummond Island ORV Route has been added as a part of this change and extends this entire system from 70 miles to nearly 90 miles of combined ORV Route and ATV Trail. Motorcycle Trail Removed –
Rexton Motorcycle trail
Along the Newberry, shown on page 42 of the Michigan Off Road Guide and Travel Atlas, there is a section of trail in Garfield Township that followed along Cranberry Lake Rd. This section of trail has been decommissioned and is no longer legal for ORV travel. Notification of changes to and clarification of designated ORV trails.

In the Upper Peninsula, within the designated ORV trail system, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, (MDNR) has recently clarified the designation of the following trails for use by motorcycles only:
1. Brevort ~ Trout Lake Motorcycle Trail
(Formerly known as Brevort ~ Trout Lake Trail) This trail is shown on page 42 of the Michigan Off Road Guide and Travel Atlas. We show it as a motorcycle trail. Therefore, its designation has not changed.
2. Kinross Motorcycle Trail
(Formerly known as Kinross Trail) This trail is shown on pages 32 & 43 of the Michigan Off Road Guide and Travel Atlas. We show it as a motorcycle trail. Therefore, its designation has not changed.
3. Foreman Lake Motorcycle Trail
(Formerly known as Foreman Lake Trail) This trail is shown on page 44 of the Michigan Off Road Guide and Travel Atlas. We show it as a motorcycle trail. Therefore, its designation has not changed.
4. Birch Hill Motorcycle Trail
(Formerly known as Birch Hill Trail) This trail is shown on page 44 of the Michigan Off Road Guide and Travel Atlas. We show it as a motorcycle trail. Therefore, its designation has not changed.
5. Sand Town Motorcycle Trail
(Formerly known as Sand Town Trail) This trail is shown on page 41 of the Michigan Off Road Guide and Travel Atlas. We show it as a motorcycle trail. Therefore, its designation has not changed.
6. Newberry ~ Rexton Motorcycle Trail
(Formerly known as Newberry ~ Rexton Trail) This trail is shown on pages 41 & 42 of the Michigan Off Road Guide and Travel Atlas. We show it as a motorcycle trail. Therefore, its designation has not changed.
7. Porterfield Lake Motorcycle Trail
(Formerly known as Porterfield Lake Trail) This trail is shown on pages 26 & 37 of the Michigan Off Road Guide and Travel Atlas. We show it as a motorcycle trail. Therefore, its designation has not changed.
8. Bass Lake Motorcycle Trail
(Formerly known as Bass Lake Trail) This trail is shown on pages 27 & 38 of the Michigan Off Road Guide and Travel Atlas. We show it as a motorcycle trail. Therefore, its designation has not changed.
